Ten years after Pau Gasol won his first NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009, Marc Gasol won his first NBA title with the Toronto Raptors.

The Gasol family has already left a Hall of Fame-level imprint on the NBA and international basketball, but that shimmering legacy just became exponentially greater after Marc Gasol chased down an elusive NBA crown. Marc's Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors, 114-110, in Game 6 of the NBA Finals to take the series and the championship, 4-2.

This is the history the two brothers made on Thursday night in Oakland:

Pau Gasol was very quick to congratulate Marc Gasol on Twitter, a public moment of triumph the two brothers will be able to celebrate throughout the offseason and for the rest of their lives. The Gasols, in this moment, are brought together as fellow champions. They also share a towering legacy in addition to NBA trophies and rings:

The first championship won by Pau Gasol wasn't accompanied by the drama or intrigue which surrounded this Marc Gasol title a decade later. Pau Gasol and the 2009 Lakers ran roughshod over the Orlando Magic in five games. They won Game 5 going away, 99-86. The 2019 NBA Finals were thrilling, complicated and intense, and home teams won only one of the six games played. (Home teams went 3-2 in the 2009 Finals.)

If you wanted to draw specific differences between Pau Gasol and Marc Gasol in their first NBA championship moments, you could. Pau was much more of a centerpiece player and scorer for the 2009 Lakers, while Marc was more of a role player for the 2019 Raptors. Yet, both men were absolutely essential to their teams' titles. That point of commonality means a lot more than the differences between the two brothers in their maiden title runs. (Pau won the 2010 NBA title after his initial 2009 breakthrough.)

What matters most? These two men, who chased their NBA dreams from Spain to play in the world's greatest professional basketball league, both realized their highest shared aspiration. Marc Gasol entered this NBA season without a single win in a conference finals game. His Memphis Grizzlies were swept by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2013 West Finals. Marc had never even played a Finals game. It was easy to think his moment would never come.

Now it hasโ€ฆ and Pau Gasol, his brother, gets to share in the joy of the experience.
