It was reported on Wednesday that Jalen Brunson intended to meet with the Dallas Mavericks ahead of free agency. Well, this meeting never pushed through, and it is reportedly now just a matter of time before the highly-coveted guard ends up signing with the New York Knicks.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Brunson's decision to nix the Mavs meeting only points to one thing — that he's now on the verge of becoming a member of the Knicks:
Shams Charania of The Athletic published a similar report, while also stating that Brunson intends to put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Knicks for a whopping $110 million:
As Shams reports, the Mavs never got a chance to pitch their extension offer for Brunson. The fact that the 25-year-old didn't even give them the time of day clearly speaks volumes of his desire to join the Knicks.
Let's not forget, however, that the Mavs had their chance on Brunson. Reports suggest that Dallas could have re-signed the 6-foot-1 point guard on an extension in the region of $55 million before the season started. They opted not to, and they have now been made to pay the price of their indecision.
