When the season ended, it didn't look likely that Ricky Rubio would be returning to the Utah Jazz, and when the Jazz traded for Mike Conley earlier this week, it essentially sealed Rubio's fate. Now, Rubio will have to try to find another team in free agency, something he has never done before.

Rubio was traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves, the team that drafted him in 2009, to the Utah Jazz two years ago. He signed a four-year extension with Minnesota in 2014, which means this summer will be the first time he hits the free agent market.

Needless to say, Rubio has some big decisions to make during the offseason.

“It’s the first summer I can really choose. It’s a bit early to see how the market is and it’s true that you depend a lot on many others. There are many free agents, like Leonard, Irving, Durant, Thompson… and they mark a bit the fate of the rest of the players,” Rubio said, per Mundo Deportivo. “But the puzzle is clarified a bit and in the end, you don’t have to wait for everyone but you have a little clearer idea. I’ve always said that my goal was to go to a team where I have playoff aspirations and something more.”

Rubio is coming off of a 2018-19 campaign in which he played 68 games and averaged 12.7 points, 6.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals over 27.9 minutes per game while shooting 40.4 percent from the floor, 31.1 percent from three-point range and 85.5 percent from the free-throw line.

The 28-year-old was originally selected by the Timberwolves with the fifth overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft and came over to the NBA for the 2011-12 campaign.
