Portland Trail Blazers small forward Carmelo Anthony believes five other sports teams should change their nicknames in the wake of the Washington Redskins’ nickname controversy. The NBA legend says the use of Native American mascot names needs to end.

The Redskins and the Cleveland Indians have already pledged to reexamine their names. It’s going to be very interesting to see if the Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Braves and Chicago Blackhawks follow suit.

As for the NBA, the Golden State Warriors are the only team on the list that Anthony tweeted out.

The 2019-20 NBA season will resume on July 30 at Walt Disney World. Anthony and the Blazers will be among the 22 teams partaking in the “bubble” games.

Before the season was suspended in March after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19, Anthony was averaging 15.3 points, 6.3 boards and 1.6 assists for the Blazers in 50 games. The NBA icon, who was out of the league for almost a year, was also shooting 42.6 percent from the field, 37.1 percent from beyond the arc and 84.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The 22 NBA teams in Orlando will play in eight seeding games before the 2020 playoffs start. For Anthony and the Blazers to make the playoffs, they have to compile a better record than the Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns in the seeding games.
