Charles Barkley has always made it abundantly clear that he is not a fan of star players teaming up to play with one another, and on ESPN First Take on Monday morning, he doubled down on that statement:

Barkley was speaking in reference to Kawhi Leonard, who has a major decision to make in free agency and seems to be deciding between the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Toronto Raptors.

Obviously, Barkley would not be in favor of Leonard joining the Lakers, as that is a team that already has LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and adding Leonard would make them the clear-cut title contender, and barring injuries, it would be hard to imagine that potential team not winning the championship next season.

Barkley says that players should not be winning every year and should have to go through the pain of losing, as that competition is what makes the sport of basketball so great.

Of course, Barkley is far from the only person to have that thought, as many fans, media pundits and former NBA players share the same sentiment and have regularly voiced their opinions on the subject.

In the case of Leonard, the 28-year-old has never been on a “superteam,” as he spent the first seven years of his career with the San Antonio Spurs, winning one title there before demanding a trade due to a disconnect with team management last summer and ending up with the Toronto Raptors, where he proceeded to win another championship.
