Minnesota Timberwolves guard D’Angelo Russell sent out a head-scratching tweet after the news of LaMelo Ball injury broke out last Sunday. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Ball is expected to miss the rest of the season with a fracture on his right wrist. The fracture is on the area of Ball’s thumb.

Despite this sad news, Russell immediately tweeted that his teammate Anthony Edwards, who was picked first in the 2020 NBA Draft, should then win this year’s Rookie of the Year award.

Ball was the frontrunner to win this year’s Rookie of the Year award as he led his fellow rookies in almost every stat this season. Meanwhile, Edwards’ first few games weren't as hyped as Ball’s, but he’s picked up his momentum since the Wolves changed their coach. A ton of NBA fans across social media reacted strongly on Russell’s insensitive tweet as they felt that it was an inappropriate tweet to send out after such horrible news.

Russell himself has been out with injuries throughout his career. This season, he has missed a majority of games due to left knee injury which he got arthroscopic knee surgery on. Minnesota is Russell’s fourth team as he has been traded from one team to another since he got to the NBA.

The Timberwolves point guard was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2015 then was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Kyle Kuzma’s draft rights. After an All-Star year with the Nets, D'Angelo Russell had to pack his bags and head to the Golden State Warriors who then traded him to the Wolves in the same year.
