During his AMA session with Bleacher Report, NBA legend Dwyane Wade was asked why he gave Orlando Magic power forward Aaron Gordon a score of 9/10 in the 2020 Slam Dunk Contest.
Gordon lost to Miami Heat high-flyer Derrick Jones Jr., marking the second time the Magic star has been robbed in a Dunk Contest.
Orlando fans are still upset at Wade for giving Gordon a 9. The future NBA Hall of Famer tried to explain himself once again.
“Because I felt it deserved a 9,” Dwyane Wade explained about Aaron Gordon's dunk. “A 9 is not a bad thing. I think it deserved a 9 because he didn't clear him. People are still talking about this dunk contest months later. As judges, we made it interesting.”
Sounds like Wade was being a little too picky and biased toward Jones, who just so happens to play for Wade's Heat.
Because of Wade's blunder, fans won't be seeing Gordon in the dunk contest ever again. He told reporters in Chicago that he's done after what happened in this year's festivities.
The dunk contest feels like it was forever ago, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic forcing the NBA to suspend the 2019-20 season. All-Star weekend was really fun in Chicago and basketball fans are missing it even more now that sports are gone.
Before the NBA season got suspended, Gordon and the Magic were in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 30-35. Gordon was averaging 14.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 58 games.
