While Robinson has been mocked for his performance in the ring throughout social media, Mayweather's comments were a surprising show of support for the fighter. Known for his penchant for stirring up controversy, the undefeated former champion is rarely a source of positive reinforcement for others, though he seems to have made an exception due to his belief that black athletes, in general, need to support one another.

“It’s ok for people to voice their opinions on social media” Mayweather wrote. “But no black athletes or black entertainers, especially black NBA players should make a mockery out of you. We are supposed to all stand with each other through the good, bad and ugly.”

Despite the positive message for the ex-NBA player, many were quick to point out that Mayweather may be exhibiting some hypocrisy, given his own long-running feud with rapper 50 Cent. While the root cause of the rift is believed to have centered on the dissolution of their promotions company, the two have spent the last several years exchanging verbal jabs that culminated with Floyd penning an open letter targeting the rapper.

To head off any potential criticism, the boxer added an addendum to his Instagram post, one that seemed to allude to the fight with 50 Cent as one in which he was merely acting in defense of himself.

As for Nate Robinson, the former NBA point guard seems to have handled the loss to Paul well, not only recovering physically but also posting his own photo on Instagram to thank fans and friends for their support.
