Boxing icon Floyd Mayweather Jr. has already taken the first steps to becoming an NBA team owner.

In an interview with Sam Gordon of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Mayweather revealed that he has been in talks to become part of an ownership group for an NBA team.

“I’ve been talking to certain individuals for the last six months. That’s something I’ve been working on behind the scenes, but I’ve never came out and publicly talked about that with the media,” Mayweather shared.

The boxing Hall of Famer refused to mention the team or where it is situated, though it is certainly interesting that he opened up about it after Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James shared his desire to bring an NBA team to Las Vegas.

Floyd Mayweather mentioned that he “didn’t want to bring it out until it was engraved in stone.” So does that mean that the ownership group is set? If that's the case, the timing is suspicious. Furthermore, it's too good to be a coincidence.

Perhaps Floyd was just motivated after hearing LeBron's revelation.

Indeed, it is hard to assume with all the details that we have. And it might take some time to piece everything together given that it is unlikely for the NBA to have an expansion team in the near future.

For now, what fans can only do is wait and see what Floyd and maybe LeBron do next.
