Veteran swingman J.R. Smith has yet to find an NBA team since being waived by the Cleveland Cavaliers last July. But if his cryptic tweet is any indication of his next destination, the 34-year-old may be on the hunt for a ring again – in Los Angeles. The city is home to two of the top favorites to win the 2020 championship with the Los Angeles Lakers and LA Clippers both pulling off masterful moves during the summer to bolster their lineups, and Smith would certainly be welcome in either one.

The Lakers completed a long-in-the-works acquisition of superstar Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans and surrounded his eventual two-man game with LeBron James with prolific shooters like Danny Green as well as scooping former starting center Dwight Howard as a backup after a season-ending injury to DeMarcus Cousins.

The Clippers on the other hand, won the Kawhi Leonard sweepstakes after the Toronto Raptors forward abandoned the chance to defend their title and head home instead after convincing the franchise to swing a trade for the Oklahoma City Thunder's Paul George, forming a nightmarish two-way tandem. The two join an already vaunted roster that features two of the top Sixth Men in the game in Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell and a returning Patrick Beverley.

The two teams are also at the top of the Western Conference right now with the Lakers enjoying a 6-1 slate while the Clippers are just a few games behind even without George and Leonard being given “load management” treatment, a move that continues to court controversy.

As for Smith, his controversial antics notwithstanding, he should still be able to chip in considerably to the cause with his three-point shooting and occasional defense when motivated.
