The Athletic's Shams Charania is reporting that the trade sending Jrue Holiday to the Milwaukee Bucks has finally been completed. In ballooning to include the Pelicans, Thunder and Nuggets, the transaction will see an astounding 10 different players switching teams, and seven draft picks exchanged or eligible as swaps.

With reports having surfaced over five days ago that Holiday would be acquired by the Bucks, the trade grew increasingly complex as the each team franchise worked towards matching salaries, while still addressing their on-court needs.

For Milwaukee, the acquisition of Holiday is the organizations last attempt to pair another star ball handler with Giannis Antetokounmpo before he is eligible to enter free agency next offseason. While their jettisoning of future draft assets is considered risky, given that the picks would rise in value should Giannis depart, the move is yet another signal that Milwaukee is all in on the coming season, and believes they are capable of retaining their star big man.

While many focus on the Bucks, the Pelicans acquire another interior presence to pair with their own budding star in Zion Williamson. Having last offseason signed center Derrick Favors to fill a similar defensive role, the arrival of Adams is meant to spare the former number one overall pick, from the rigors of being the primary defender at the rim. Additionally, New Orleans will add to their stable of draft picks, with the team already owning the rights to 11 picks and swaps through the next six seasons.

While the the Thunder and Nuggets end of the deal is expected to not nearly be as consequential in its impact on the coming season as it is for the Bucks, the trade does fit in with the strategy both have employed this offseason.
