Former NBA center Marc Gasol has been pondering the next step in his basketball career for some time. Gasol made his mark in the NBA primarily as a member of the Memphis Grizzlies, though he also made stops with the Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Lakers. The former NBA Defensive Player of the Year was waived by the Grizzlies before the start of the 2021-22 season and after some time to ponder his future, Gasol has finally arrived at a decision.

So Marc Gasol is going to return to the place where it all started: Spain. He is expected to begin practicing with the club in the next couple of weeks, with an early-December debut in mind. Gasol and older brother Pau Gasol, also formerly of the Grizzlies and Lakers, both started out as professional basketball players in their native country.

There were reports that Marc Gasol would take his talents from the NBA to FC Barcelona, the first team he ever played for as a professional hooper in Spain. However, the 36-year-old will instead suit up for Girona Basket, the team of which he is also the owner and president of. How's that for power move?

Speaking of moves, Gasol had a bunch of them in his 11 seasons as an NBA center, routinely ranking as one of the league's best- and most versatile- big men. Gasol's defense as a member of the “Grit and Grind” Grizzlies is well-known by NBA fans, as it helped him earn the Defensive Player of the Year award- and multiple playoff berths for Memphis.

While it's sad to see Marc Gasol, who showed he had gas left in the tank as a member of the Lakers in 2020, leave the NBA, it's equally interesting to see him return to the place where his basketball dreams began.
