Apparently, the legend about Metta World Peace breaking Michael Jordan's ribs in the summer of 2001 is completely true. Metta, who was still known as Ron Artest at that time, was suiting up for the Chicago Bulls back then and the ever-aggressive forward wasn't backing down from the G.O.A.T., even if it was just a pick-up game.

“It was a mistake. Actually I’m not going to tell you it was a mistake, it was really aggressive basketball. You got to think how strong Mike is and how competitive Mike is and when we were tangling over each other in the post in the summertime, I tried to move his arm out the way and accidentally hit him with my elbow…I definitely didn’t mean to hit him in the ribs, but I was really aggressive; whatever I had to do to deny Mike.” MWP told the Scoop B Radio Podcast.

At that time, the young Metta was just starting in the league as a second-year player for the Bulls while Michael Jordan was preparing to make his comeback later that year for the Washington Wizards. To be completely honest, you wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of either of Metta's elbows, even if you're MJ.

He added, “I remember the play clear as day – I actually got the offensive foul called against Mike. I also hit the ball and got an offensive foul on him. He had refs in the summertime; which is really good play for me because, it was a great defensive play, but I hurt is ribs and I was like, really sad for a couple of days. You know, I really didn’t like that.”
