There's a new WBC and WBA middleweight champion in town and he goes by the name of Canelo Alvarez. The hard-hitting Mexican landed the punches that count and eventually handed Gennady Golovkin the first loss of his professional career. The boxing world was put on notice for this fight and even NBA stars had their own take on its ending.
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James could not hold back the hype after being pleased with the 12-round megafight.
One of the best fights I’ve ever seen!! Ultimate competitors in @Canelo @GGGBoxing!! Salute to the both of you. Could watch y’all fight any day. 🙏🏾#KingTalk👑

James' boss in Hall of Famer Magic Johnson was just as impressed and was quick to congratulate the victor.
All time classic fight between Canelo and GGG! It was plenty of action from the 1st to the 12th round. Tonight's fight reminded me of Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran.

Congratulations to Canelo Alvarez for defeating GGG!

Fellow NBA legend Scottie Pippen had a great view himself.

Now comes the divide as some NBA stars felt that the outcome wasn't justified.
Great fight, but once again GGG won to me. As he won the first one. He got him stumbling and should have got the edge. But who knows 🤷🏾♂️, still was a classic.

Rolling with GGG in that one. Great fight though.

Did boxing strip GGG a second time??

Retired player and former All-Star Jermaine O'Neal have had his own fight moments inside the NBA court — most infamous of which had left what's probably the biggest scar on the league's reputation in terms of providing fun and safe family entertainment live.
If you throw and land more punches in a fight then doesn’t that mean you are supposed to win in boxing? Can somebody help me with this? Smdh

O'Neal has a point, but the analytics guys from CompuBox observed differently.
Final Punch Stats for #GGGCanelo2: Canelo had a 143-116 edge in power shots and landed a higher percentage. GGG landed 70 power shots in rounds 6-12 after landing just 46 in the first 6 rounds. pic.twitter.com/lgCsTTd8N1

With all this and even without any official confirmation, the real question on a third installment which the boxing world absolutely deserves is “when.” To help out the organizers, Lakers great Mychal Thompson offered an intriguing idea.
Verrrry good fight…GGG Canelo 3…Cinqo de Mayo…No bainer

Let's see how everything unfolds.
