Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, like most boxing fans around the globe, had his eyes trained on the megafight between Gennady Golvkin and Canelo Alvarez, which the latter won via a majority decision.

The match was among the most anticipated, if not the most anticipated, fights of the year after their initial encounter ended up rather unconvincingly. This time around, a winner was declared as the judges who saw the tilt tipping over to Mexican's side, 115-113, outnumbered the lone judge who scored the fight 114-114.

Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) now holds the WBA and WBC middleweight titles as Golovkin suffered the first loss of his professional career after 40 matches.

The 12-round fight was full of hard blows, as expected, with both pugilists giving and receiving a generous amount of punches. Golovkin was more aggressive in seemingly throwing more punches but Canelo landed his own in a more efficient manner.

“I am a great fighter and I showed it tonight,” Alvarez remarked via an interpreter. “I showed my victory with facts. He was the one who was backing up. I feel satisfied because I gave a great fight. It was a clear victory.”

With the type of performances the two warriors had put out that is made even more interesting by the decision, the third installment of this mega-series is just what every boxing fan deserves.
