The San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks will play in a Western Conference matchup on Thursday night. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Spurs-Mavericks prediction and pick.

The Spurs and Mavericks will battle in what will be an all Texas matchup on Thursday. Dallas sits at 2-1 on the season, while the Spurs sit at 1-3. San Antonio has lost three straight, but played the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets over that stretch. The gauntlet obviously continues on Thursday for the Spurs with a matchup vs. Luka Doncic and the Mavericks. The Mavericks will look to move to 3-1 under new head coach Jason Kidd, who replaced Rick Carlisle after he stepped down and took the Indiana Pacers head coaching job following Dallas' first round exit to the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2021 postseason. The Spurs will look to pull off the upset of the Mavericks, who could be missing a key piece, on Thursday.

Here's how the bookmakers have set the Spurs-Mavericks odds for this Thursday matchup.

NBA Odds: Spurs-Mavericks Odds

San Antonio Spurs +6 (-110), +210 ML

Dallas Mavericks -6 (-110), -255 ML

Why The Spurs Can Cover The Spread

Kristaps Porzingis is questionable for the Mavericks with back tightness. If he's unable to go, that obviously should give the Spurs a better chance. Dejounte Murray, Keldon Johnson and others have been solid this season for the Spurs, but so far they have just ran into better competition on the schedule, facing a former league MVP in each of their past three contests. The Spurs figure to be more in the mix for the play-in than a playoff spot this season, but they are young, competitive and coached by one of the best of all time in Gregg Popovich. The Spurs aren't a flashy play here, but they are capable of covering and winning in this spot.

Why The Mavericks Can Cover The Spread

The Mavericks will obviously hope Porzingis can go on Thursday, so look for clarity on that as more injury reports come out throughout the day. If he can't go, that likely puts a bigger load on Luka Doncic, which might not be a bad thing for a night. Doncic is obviously the number one threat, so if he ramps up his aggressiveness and gets rolling, the absence of Porzingis could ironically hurt the Spurs. If Porzingis is ruled out, that likely brings down the line a little too. Either way, the Mavericks have a good chance of covering vs. this Spurs team at home as long as they have Doncic.

Final Spurs-Mavericks Prediction & Pick

The Mavericks are the better team here, and have the best player on the court by a significant margin. Don't overthink this one.

FINAL SPURS-MAVERICKS PREDICTION & PICK: Mavericks -6 (-110)
