Memphis Grizzlies: -8.5 (-110)

Under: 237.5 (-110)

Why The Spurs Could Cover The Spread

The San Antonio Spurs have had an underwhelming year. They have struggled to gain momentum and string together wins to make them competitive. Through their first 61 games, they are 24-37 but will look to improve on that on Monday. The Grizzlies are a tough opponent, but if the Spurs can step up their game they could end up on top. San Antonio is coming off a disappointing four-point loss to the Heat. The Spurs played that game closer than most people thought they would and if they can put in another performance like that on Monday then they could definitely secure the win.

While this Spurs team may be lacking direction, it has given opportunities to its roster that would have been unavailable otherwise. In their loss to the Heat, seven Spurs players contributed over 20 minutes of playing time, three of them scored over 20 points, and six scored in the double digits. San Antonio is giving players like Keita-Bates Diop a chance to make a name for themselves. While they may not be able to make a deep run this year, this team can still compete on a game-to-game basis.

One of the biggest things standing in this team's way this season has been injuries. Luckily, the Spurs have only two players listed on their injury report. Doug McDermott and Romeo Langford are both questionable for the matchup. The Spurs are definitely trying to build a team for the future, and if they win a couple of games on the way that is definitely a positive. While they may not be the most competitive team in the league, they still have the ability to pull off a few surprises.

Why The Grizzlies Could Cover The Spread

The Memphis Grizzlies have been good this season. They have had somewhat surprising success and have taken down top opponents in the league. Through their first 62 games, they have a record of 42-20. They are fresh off a six-point victory over the Chicago Bulls. Memphis will look to build on that as they face a much weaker opponent in the Spurs. If the Grizzlies come into this game ready they should have no problem taking care of business at home. They just need to make sure not to underestimate the Spurs.

The reason the Grizzlies were able to take down the Bulls can be put in two words, or a name rather, Ja Morant. Ja absolutely went off against the Bulls. The Grizzlies star had 46 points in 36 minutes. While he did more than his fair share of the work, he had the rest of Memphis to back him up. Seven players played for 23 or more minutes and helped support the star's impressive night. While Morant won't play like that every night, he stepped up when his team needed him. This Grizzlies team is special and they should have no problem getting another win on Monday.

As far as injuries go, this team is healthy for the most part. The Grizzlies have four players listed on their injury report, including Brandon Clarke who is questionable and Dillon Brooks who is out. Memphis will have no problem fielding a competitive roster in this match and it's looking like this should go their way.

Final Spurs-Grizzlies Prediction & Pick

This is an easy pick. While the spread is pretty wide for this here, the Grizzlies have been impressive lately. San Antonio, on the other hand, is a team lacking identity. The Spurs may be able to keep this game close, but it just seems unlikely. Betting on Memphis to step up seems like a much better bet, and even though San Antonio just had a solid game they're too unpredictable. Pick the Grizzlies to win and cover.
