The Atlanta Hawks host the Minnesota Timberwolves in an interconference matchup! It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Timberwolves-Hawks prediction and pick.
The Minnesota Timberwolves continue to be one of the more surprising teams in the NBA this season. They are 22-22 on the year which is far better than many predicted before the season started. They are coming off a 12-point win over the New York Knicks last time out. The Atlanta Hawks also continue to be one of the more surprising teams in the NBA, but for a different reason. The Hawks are just 18-25 on the season. They started out slow like this last season but really picked it up and surged to the Eastern Conference Finals. We will see if the Hawks can figure it out once again, but for now, they need to get past a good Timberwolves team.

Why The Timberwolves Could Cover The Spread
The Timberwolves are being given a few points here on the road. After coming off a huge win over the Knicks, I think the Timberwolves are in a great position to cover this spread. Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards both finished with over 20 points in the win against the Knicks. Those two are seriously making their mark on the NBA season and they are also getting solid production from D'Angelo Russell.
The T-wolves but three need to all play well if they want to get past the Hawks. Even though the Hawks are struggling, they just outlasted the Milwaukee Bucks last time out. Trey Young put up 30 points and all five starters, plus Danilo Gallinari, scored double-digits in the win. The T-wolves will need to contain Young and if they do, they should be able to sneak out with a win in Atlanta. Minnesota is 6-4 in their last 10 games.

Why The Hawks Could Cover The Spread
The Hawks played fantastic against the Bucks. If they can play like that every game then they can compete with anyone and beat anyone. Atlanta went 15-36 from beyond the arc which is what they are known for. Atlanta will need to keep up their three-point shooting if they want to get past the Timberwolves. Young is fourth in the NBA in scoring, so that is a good sign for them moving forward because they contain one of the best scoring threats in the NBA. Neither team is good in this position, the Hawks are just 9-11 at home this season and the Wolves are 20-12 on the road.
The winner of this game will have to do something out of the ordinary for them. The Hawks won the first time they faced back in early Dec. Young scored 29 to help the Hawks get past Minnesota and it will likely take another one of those performances again. Atlanta is 3-7 in their last 10 games, however, so unless the Hawks get back on track, they could continue to struggle.
Final Timberwolves-Hawks Prediction & Pick
The Timberwolves make the most sense here. They are playing like the better team as of late. Both teams are coming off a win, but overall the Timberwolves are playing a lot better lately. Take Minnesota and hope that Young and the Hawks don't upset the T-wolves.
Final Timberwolves-Hawks Prediction & Pick: Timberwolves +1.5 (-106)
