Golden State Warriors forward Kelly Oubre Jr is looking for a nice payday in free agency and is expected to have lots of potential suitors starting on Monday. While it’s not out of the question he returns to the Bay Area, there is one specific destination he is interested in.

According to league sources, Oubre Jr is keen on playing under the legendary Gregg Popovich in San Antonio.

Kelly Oubre Jr would definitely bring a scoring punch to a Spurs that was 21st in offensive rating last season. With DeMar DeRozan’s future with the team also very unclear heading into free agency, they could use another proven scorer.

While a wrist injury ended Oubre Jr’s 2020/21 campaign early, he still managed to average 15.4 points and 6.0 rebounds in 55 games played for the Dubs. Golden State has very limited cap space but could be willing to give Kelly Oubre Jr his desired $20 million a year, but the Spurs would also be able to pay him handsomely.

We’ve seen the growth of Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson under Pop. At 25-years-old, Oubre Jr still has room to grow, and joining the Spurs could really see him develop even more.

But, Kelly Oubre Jr has said that his top priority is to win and compete for a title, which wouldn’t be the case in San Antonio. Dallas, Miami, and New York have also shown interest in the former Kansas standout.

Free agency should be very busy for Oubre Jr.
