People are still trying to process Luka Doncic being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, as it came as a surprise to almost everyone in the NBA world. After the trade, general manager Nico Harrison shared several reasons why he thought the trade benefitted them, but there could also be some other things in play. Some think that one reason for the trade was because of Doncic's conditioning, according to HoopsHype.

“The biggest thing, when talking to people around the league, was the concern about Luka’s conditioning,
HoopsHype wrote. “As we all know, and as has been reported, he’s gotten up to 270 pounds. According to my sources, the Dallas Mavericks were feeling like it could end up being a Joel Embiid-type situation. And if that is the case, then it’s completely—well, it’s not warranted. It’s not that this makes everything okay, but when you think about a star player who has had such an impact on a team, like Joel Embiid, but then isn’t available because of injuries, you can at least start to understand the worry.”

One of the constant worries about Doncic has been his conditioning and how he takes care of his body. Doncic seems to always have an injury but he plays through it, and he's recently been out since Christmas with a calf strain. The Mavericks maybe wanted to get ahead of that, and they didn't see his situation getting any better in the future.

A lot of people are still confused about why the Mavericks would trade a top-3 player in his prime after they just made it to the NBA Finals a season ago. There may have been concerns about whether Doncic would leave after his contract was up, and the Mavericks also seemed to be hesitant to offer him the supermax.

Doncic will now head to the Lakers and he will be the future of the franchise with LeBron James' time in the league possibly coming to an end in the next couple of years. The Mavericks were able to acquire Anthony Davis and it keeps them in win-now mode with the team they have.

This trade will be looked at for years to come and many will want to know which team came out on top. As of now, everybody is waiting on Doncic and Davis to suit up on their new teams to see how things go.
