Not much will be certain in the Walt Disney World bubble once the 2019-20 NBA season restarts. Yet many executives are expecting one thing to be as certain as death and taxes: tampering.

Ethan Strauss of The Athletic took a dive into the potential implications of the resumption of the season, and many agreed there will be moves made and strings pulled as 22 teams enter the fray on July 30.

“Oh, it will be tamperpalooza in Orlando! That’s for sure,” an NBA staffer told Strauss.

Many general managers are expected to be present once the season restarts, and not only as the means to represent their franchise but also to line out potential deals with their counterparts.

Say goodbye to long phone calls and Zoom meetings and say hello to in-person chats at local cafes, with so much downtime between games.

Even for teams that will arduously fight for a playoff spot, this is a golden chance for GMs to form relationships with other executives, build a line of trust and eventually link up again when deals need to be made.

GMs will be scattered into three hotels, with plenty of opportunities to chat and line up trades, now that teams have a general idea of their draft positioning with their odds locked at the time the season came to a halt.

The eight regular-season games will serve only for seeding purposes, giving GMs ample room to discuss draft pick compensations and potentially give birth to future blockbuster moves to come.

Furthermore, with so many players in one place, one has to expect there will be plenty of chatter among them about their futures. This could very well turn into the Wild West of tampering.
