The Los Angeles Clippers appear to have hit a bit of a speed bump in their rumored pursuit of New Orleans Pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball. L.A. still remains determined to land their man, though, and they have now reportedly resorted to a different approach in their attempt to acquire the 23-year-old.

According to reports, the Clippers are now looking for a third team (or perhaps a fourth as well?) to join in on what could end up being a blockbuster trade deadline move (h/t ClutchPoints on Twitter):

It appears that the Clippers really want Ball in L.A. Despite the fact that they were unable to strike a deal with the Pelicans on a 1-for-1 did not dissuade them. This speaks volumes of how highly the Clippers front office view Ball and how they seem adamant about his potential contributions to the team.

Lonzo Ball’s stats are relatively stagnant from a year ago, but his free-throw shooting percentage has dramatically improved and he is on pace for a career-high in win shares.

It is worth noting that Ball is currently on an expiring deal. This means that he could end up as a half-season rental for the Clippers if he opts to walk away as a free agent in the summer. Then again, there are a lot of things to love about L.A. so if it comes to that, the Clippers should be able to convince Ball to sign an extension with the team.

For his part, Ball already indicated that he is currently focused on doing what he can with the Pelicans. His father, LaVar Ball, seems to think otherwise. In the mind of his always outspoken dad, Lonzo's time in New Orleans is up.
