Since his retirement from the NBA several years ago, Shaquille O'Neal has been an open book about many aspects of his career.

During a recent appearance on “Oprah's Master Class” on the OWN Network, O'Neal talked about the time he spent $1 million in just 30 minutes.

O'Neal likely wasn't alone in making this similar mistake as many professional athletes often don't know how to manage earning that type of money. It's extremely easy to spend given the availability to them and the numerous temptations that are there.

That said, this provided O'Neal an early lesson to better manage his money before his NBA career even got started as he has now become one of the highest earning former players. In fact, following his retirement, he has become an entrepreneur and has received many different endorsement opportunities in the process.

O'Neal has also made an effort to go back to school to earn his doctoral degree in education from Barry University. He has become one of the few to truly take advantage of the elevated platform of stardom to have financial success well beyond his playing days and avoid the pitfalls of the numerous unnecessary spending habits that professional athletes experience that can lead to a quick path to bankruptcy.
