After delivering a big three-pointer over the New York Knicks on Wednesday, Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart had a stern message to his haters.

Smart knocked down a critical shot from long distance in the final minute of their intense duel with the Knicks. While it was not the game-winning shot, it was definitely key in helping the Celtics hack out the 101-99 win.

The Knicks decided to double team Jayson Tatum in the possession, being that he's the Celtics' most lethal scorer. Tatum, however, made the right play by dishing it out to Smart who was wide open for the elbow three-pointer to give them a three-point lead.

The hard-nosed Smart has been slammed for his inconsistent shooting over the last few games. But he said he won't stop playing his game because that's what his teammates expect from him (via Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe).

“I make winning plays for my team. I'm going to give us extra possessions. My threes, I’ve always believed in myself, like I said. I (couldn’t) care less what anybody says, I’m going to continue to shoot it. My teammates continue to believe in me.”

All wins are great. But this one was special given the effort that the Celtics gave, according to Smart.

 

Smart finished the game with 17 points, four rebounds, and nine assists. He shot 4-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-6 from deep. None bigger than the one he made in the final minute.

The Celtics hope this would mark the start of a more consistent stroke from Marcus Smart. Fans already love the hustle and grit he brings. They would love to get more buckets from him too.
