The Boston Celtics come into their NBA Finals matchup against the Golden State Warriors as the underdogs. However, there is one particular Jimmy Butler stat that should put Stephen Curry and Co. on notice.
As it turns out, the Celtics have one thing going for them in terms of successfully eliminating Butler and the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. History is actually smiling at Boston right now (h/t br_betting on Twitter):
Over the past three seasons, the team that knocked out Jimmy Butler has eventually won the NBA Finals.

In 2019, Kawhi Leonard's unforgettable series-winning shot took out Butler and the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round, en route to the Toronto Raptors winning the championship. A year or so later, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated Butler and the Heat in the 2020 NBA Finals to lift the title. Last season, Giannis Antetokounmpo and his Milwaukee Bucks eliminated Butler's Heat in the first round before they ended up becoming the 2021 NBA champs.
The Celtics are now hoping to make it four years in a row this season at the expense of the Warriors. Right now, Jayson Tatum and Co. have a great opportunity to win their first title as a group. It's going to be a gargantuan task, no doubt, but if any team can take down the mighty Warriors, then it has to be the Celtics.
