Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart played with Isaiah Thomas when the diminutive NBA point guard electrified Beantown with his heart and scoring ability. He knows IT can ball.
Thomas remains a free agent after being waived by the Los Angeles Clippers in February, but Smart appeared to give his former teammate an endorsement via Twitter, calling Thomas the “Best to ever do it under 6.'”

Thomas had previously tweeted about being the undersized GOAT on Saturday night.
NOBODY UNDER 6ft comes close. https://t.co/OLAtaqADcJ

The two-time NBA All-Star also returned the favor, calling Smart one of his favorite teammates ever and praising Smart's defensive abilities.
“If you want to win put Marcus Smart in” one of my favorite teammates ever. Real deal best defender in terms of being able to guard 1-5 on any night https://t.co/RWXLi5VuBc

It remains to be seen whether Isaiah Thomas will get another opportunity ahead of the NBA restart.
Thomas began the year with the Washington Wizards, averaging 12.2 points and 3.7 assists through his first 40 games prior to being traded to and promptly waived by the Clippers.
While Thomas has been something of a defensive liability throughout his career, he has also been shooting over 41 percent from beyond the arc on 4.7 attempts per game. Thomas has the ability to be a microwave-type player who can provide scoring off the bench.
Of course, Marcus Smart and the Celtics do not need much help in the backcourt. Boston has arguably the strongest group of guards in the league, with Jaylen Brown developing into a star in his own right.
That said, Smart seems to think Thomas has plenty to offer any inquiring team. It is possible Thomas could still get a look, especially considering the uncertainty with respect to players potentially opting out of the restart.
