The Boston Celtics suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets on Friday, 109-104, and one glaring statistic showed the reason behind Boston's demise.
As so conveniently pointed out by the Nets' official Twitter page, Brooklyn completely outscored the Celtics on fastbreak points:

It's not every day that an NBA team gets zero points on transition throughout one whole game, so this was clearly one of the main reasons behind Boston's downfall on Friday.
Even Celtics coach Brad Stevens confirmed that their transition game was to blame for their defeat against the Nets.

This, per @cleantheglass, is the easiest explanation for why the Celtics lost.
"We got killed in it," Brad Stevens said. He said turnovers have been an issue for the Celtics regardless of who's on the court. pic.twitter.com/gqdvTL0pnb

Boston had a couple of costly turnovers in crunch time too, and those also contributed to their narrow defeat. Marcus Smart's entry for Shaqtin a Fool proved to be a key turnover late in the game for the Beantown team.
To be fair, the Celtics were missing both Kemba Walker and Jaylen Brown in this one. Then again, the Nets were without Kevin Durant and James Harden as well, so both teams entered the matchup shorthanded.
Friday's loss was Boston's second defeat in their last three games. They did pull off a huge win over the Phoenix Suns on Thursday, but they've suffered another loss here. Things continue to be extremely tight in the East right now with just two games separating the fourth-placed New York Knicks and the seventh-seeded Miami Heat. The Celtics are currently sixth and are well within a Top 4 finish in a wide-open Eastern Conference.
