Boston sports teams feature one of the most passionate fan bases in all of sports. The teams themselves keep tabs on how each other are doing as well. That's why it came as no surprise to see Red Sox manager Alex Cora keeping a stern eye on the success of the Celtics this season.

However, Cora believes there is a lesson that the Red Sox can learn from the Celtics. The Celtics got off to a rocky start at the beginning of the 2021-2022 campaign. But they turned a corner mid-season and are now fighting for a berth in the NBA Finals. Meanwhile, the Red Sox have struggled out of the gates so far in the 2022 MLB season.

Alex Cora first summarized the Celtics performance.

“At one point, people were screaming to break that team up. And now, they’re in the conference finals. I think patience paid off. They were very patient with the kids. Having (Al) Horford, that calming influence in the locker room, it’s been great. And they decided to start playing defense. I think it was Dec. 31, if I’m not mistaken, and that was the day everything changed.”

There were rumors about a potential Celtics rebuild at the beginning of last season. But the team has been one of the best in the NBA since that December 31st date.

The Red Sox manager then explained how the team can learn from the Celtics' turnaround.

“It’s been a great learning experience the last few years working here just to see how every program, they do it differently in a sense, but at the end we’re all getting to where we want to get, to be in the playoffs.”

Alex Cora is looking to lead the Red Sox to the postseason after falling just two wins short of a World Series appearance last year. Meanwhile, the Celtics will play Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Tuesday as they strive towards a championship.
