Around 2:30 a.m., Emmett was “approached by two unknown suspects as he sat in his vehicle in front of his residence in the 1800 block of N. Prairie Avenue. The suspects displayed a handgun and an altercation ensued, during which the victim was shot as he ran away from the suspects,” Dallas police said in a statement.

Emmett played his collegiate ball at Texas Tech, where he was named a consensus All-American as a senior in 2004 under head coach Bob Knight. In his senior campaign with the Red Raiders, the Dallas native racked up averages of 20.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, leading his team to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

The Seattle SuperSonics selected Emmett with the 35th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. However, he was later traded to the Grizzlies as part of a draft night deal. He made eight appearances with Memphis during the 2004-05 season, but didn't play in the league again until signing a 10-day deal with the New Jersey Nets in the 2011-12 campaign.

Following his NBA career, Emmett decided to join the BIG3 League, where he became the league's second-leading scorer. He had 134 points, which was second only to Joe Johnson.
