Brooklyn Nets point guard D'Angelo Russell tied his career high in assists against his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers.

Per Anthony Puccio of NetsDaily, Russell — who was the second overall pick by the Lakers in 2015 — notched in a career-high 13 assists in their 115-110 win over the Lakers. The win extended the Nets' winning streak to six games.

The 22-year-old Russell also had 22 points on 9-of-21 shooting from the field and 4-of-9 from downtown. The win and Russell's stellar performance is some sort of message to his former team.

To recall, along with Timofey Mozgov, he was sent to the Nets in 2017, in exchange for Brook Lopez and the rights to Kyle Kuzma, the 27th pick in the 2017 NBA draft. It was a signal that the purple and gold were willing to move on from Russell and start anew.

In his first season with the Nets, Russell sat out for the most part as he had to recover from surgery on his left knee. Now, he seems good and ready to go and has been the team's starting point guard. Through 31 games, he's averaging 18 points per game — a career high, as well as 6.0 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals.

The Nets have a chance to extend their red-hot streak on Wednesday when they visit the Chicago Bulls.
