Brooklyn Nets starting point guard D'Angelo Russell will replace Indiana Pacers shooting guard Victor Oladipo in the 2019 All-Star game, according to a press release by the NBA.

Victor Oladipo was lost for the season after undergoing season-ending surgery on a ruptured right quadriceps tendon. D'Angelo Russell beat out Philadelphia 76ers small forward Jimmy Butler.

In his second season with the Nets, D'Angelo Russell is playing at a very high level. The lefty is averaging 19.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 43.8 percent from the field, 37.4 percent from beyond the arc and 80.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Brooklyn enters Friday with a record of 28-25, good for sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Nets acquired D'Angelo Russell in the summer of 2017 from the Los Angeles Lakers. Russell will become a restricted free agent after this season ends and it looks like he is going to get paid. The 22-year-old has five double-doubles on the season and is putting up career-best numbers in every single category. He has matured, both on and off the court, and it is paying off in a big way.

This is a great accomplishment for D'Angelo Russell. The Lakers definitely gave up on him too quickly and now the Nets are reaping the benefits of the Lakers' mistake.
