Kenny Atkinson is hoping to the turn Brooklyn Nets-New York Knicks matchups “into a real exciting rivalry in the future.”

Both the Nets and Knicks had cap space this summer to sign two max contract players. Brooklyn got Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan. New York, meanwhile, didn’t even get a meeting with KD or Kyrie and ended up agreeing to deals with Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Taj Gibson, Elfrid Payton, Wayne Ellington, Reggie Bullock and Marcus Morris.

The allure of playing in Madison Square Garden isn’t large enough for stars anymore since the Knicks are so dysfunctional.
Brooklyn is going to be a title contender next season once Durant returns from his Achilles injury. The Knicks, meanwhile, figure to be a bottom cellar team in the Eastern Conference since they lack star power.
However, the games between Brooklyn and New York are going to be fun. Nets fans have bragging rights at the moment since their team has KD and Irving, and they are the ones on the rise.
