Brooklyn Nets All-Star Kevin Durant engaged in a back-and-forth exchange with several NBA fans on Twitter Wednesday night in an attempt to defend the relevance of his team.
The online banter started when Brandon Tierney of CBS Sports Radio sent out his opinion about the Nets's current situation, saying: “Nets win 7 straight, no one cares. Nets lose 7 straight, no one cares. Speaks volumes.”
The Nets star is a known to respond to criticism on social media. The two-time champion saw Tierney's message and decided to ask him what he meant by it. As you might expect, other Twitter users jumped in the proverbial boat with their two cents, to which Kevin continued to reply.
What does it say?

Being relevant in the eyes of fans doesn’t make the ball go in the basket. So it really doesn’t matter but go ahead and claim something

As fans continued to claim that the Nets are irrelevant, Durant continued to reply:
Nope but it grows the business itself which secures your popularity/bag in the future. Don't you wanna have a Bird/Magic type of rivalry in today's NBA? Takes relevance.

You’re gonna watch anyway. Doesn’t matter

Durant's conversation with NBA fans went on for quite a while. For the full extent of it, you can head over to the “tweets & replies” section of his Twitter account.
Durant, who's still recovering from am Achilles injury, joined the Nets this offseason, leaving the Golden State Warriors after winning two championships. He joined Kyrie Irving, who also came to Brooklyn prior to the start of this campaign. It's a duo that is projected to be one of the best in the NBA — once both stars are fully healthy. Unfortunately, Irving has missed a significant amount of time this season due to a shoulder injury.
The Nets will look to snap a seven-game losing streak on Friday night, when they serve as hosts to the Miami Heat.
