The Brooklyn Nets have Kyrie Irving in the fold — at least for now. With Shams Charania of The Athletic reporting that Irving and the Nets are at a standstill in terms of how both sides will go forward with their commitment to each other, the door is now seemingly open wider for a potential departure by the future Hall of Famer point guard.

However, multiple sources tell The Athletic that conversations about Irving’s future have gone stagnant between him and the Nets. An impasse currently exists among the parties that clears the way for the seven-time All-Star to consider the open marketplace, those sources said.

Irving, perhaps in an attempt to further stir the rumor pot whether just for fun or for subtle trolling purposes, tweeted a GIF shortly after Charania's bombshell that also linked the Nets guard to the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and the New York Knicks as potential 2022 destinations.

Make what you want out of that wordless reaction from Irving, but he's definitely now become an even bigger target for trade rumors. If he leaves the Nets this offseason, that would also mean a failure on his and Brooklyn's part to capitalize on a grand chance to win an NBA championship with Irving and Kevin Durant in the same boat. That's not to mention James Harden, who already left the Nets via trade to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Irving, who has a player option worth $36.503 million for the 2022-23 NBA season which he could pick up, appeared in just 29 games for the Nets in the 2021-22 campaign, finishing the regular season with averages of 27.4 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.4 rebounds.
