The Brooklyn Nets officially booked their spot in the second round after defeating the Boston Celtics in Game 5 of their opening-round series matchup. After the huge win, Nets superstar Kyrie Irving came out with a rather contentious statement about his team's title run this season.
We all know that it's more than just basketball for Kyrie Irving. In his post-game interview, the seven-time All-Star expressed how he believes his Nets are making a global impact as they look to go all the way and win the championship this year:
“We uniting the whole world with this championship run, so I hope everybody is with us,” Irving said, via the YES Network on Twitter. “We uniting the whole world with this run. Stick with us baby.”

Kyrie did not expound on the rationale behind his statement, but knowing the Nets star, we're thinking that he's coming from a political standpoint here. Irving has been very vocal about systemic racism, and perhaps this is what he's talking about here. Either that or he's just really excited about Brooklyn's win.
Then again, there's always more beyond the surface when it comes to Kyrie Irving. We hope the Nets star gets to explain his statement here because we're really interested to find out exactly how the Nets are “uniting the world” with their title run.
Before anything else though, Brooklyn will need to be ready for their second-round opponents. The Milwaukee Bucks are going to give them a much tougher challenge than the Celtics did, and Irving will need to be at his very best against Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co.
