One of the biggest developments that came out of last week's trade deadline was the Brooklyn Nets signing former All-Star big man LaMarcus Aldridge to a one-year deal. This move further bolstered the Nets' championship hopes this season, as they added another key piece in what has become a true powerhouse side.

When asked why he made the decision to take his talents to Brooklyn, Aldridge expressed that it was all about the opportunity that was presented to him with the Nets:

“It was about a role, and I felt I filled a void of a bigger 5 man that can score and play defense,” Aldirdge said, via Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News.

This is true. Aldridge, despite being 35, is indeed a potent scorer and a real threat on the defensive end. He is a considerable upgrade from DeAndre Jordan and Jeff Green who have recently split the minutes at the five spot for the Nets. Bringing in a tested veteran like Aldridge into the mix provides the Nets with an added weapon on both ends of the floor.

However, what cannot be denied here is that a potential championship also had to be one of the main factors in Aldridge's decision to join the Nets. He is now in his twilight years, and it was clear that a title was not attainable with the San Antonio Spurs. At this point in his career, his best bet to win a chip would be to join arguably the best team in the league. And Aldridge did just that.
