For the first time since 2015, the Brooklyn Nets will be seeing postseason action. The team has officially clinched a playoff berth on Sunday after beating the Indiana Pacers 106-98 on the road.

While it is still unclear who they will be facing in the first round, Nets General Manager Sean Marks admitted that what they have achieved this season is just a small piece of what they're trying to build as a franchise.

“It’s another great little stepping stone in how we’re trying to build this,” Marks said, per Nets Daily.

“You have to try and go through teams that have had success, and they’ll show you how to perform, how to prepare and so forth.”

The Nets will be led by their promising young core of first time All-Star D'Angelo Russell, Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen, and Caris LeVert. While it is not expected for them to get past the first round, Brooklyn could use their postseason run to show people that they want to become great once again — that they want to become a championship contending team.

The last time the Nets made it to the NBA Finals was back in 2003, and they want to be the kings of the East anew. Sean Marks knows that the team won't achieve that this season, but with plenty of cap space at their disposal, they could turn things around in a blink of an eye, especially if they're able to sign one of the top-tier free agents this summer.

Brooklyn was one of the most surprising teams this season, and they have the ability to do some damage in the playoffs. Even if their run is cut short, the team is certain to come back better next season.
