The Brooklyn Nets' season has come to a close, but the franchise has only begun taking the right steps to become the Eastern Conference mainstay they hope to be. Asked of the potential of acquiring a max-level player in the summer, general manager Sean Marks took on the challenge head on.
“I think that’s the challenge,” said a level-headed Marks, according to Brian Lewis of The New York Post. “I'm not sure there's pressure. If the right player is available we’ll target those guys, like any other team.”
The Nets were bounced in five games after surprising the Philadelphia 76ers with a Game 1 win, and Marks noted this is only the beginning for a team that has thrived in its rebuild around a brand new culture.
Article Continues Below“We’re not satisfied; we know this is just one wrung in the ladder and it’s a step in the right direction,” said Marks.
Brooklyn won 42 games this season and garnered the sixth spot in the East after winning only 28 last season and being out of the playoffs altogether for the last four seasons — a massive improvement for the organization, given the myriad of moves they had to make since bringing Marks on board in 2016.
The Kiwi front office executive will be up for a contract extension this upcoming 2019-20 season, one ownership would be wise to give him as the architect of this winning roster and his achievements as a general manager.
