The situation with the Philadelphia 76ers and the ongoing Ben Simmons drama seems to have new developments every day. After the Australian forward once again reportedly confirmed he will not be attending training camp with the Sixers, some news came out about a possible trade with the Brooklyn Nets.

The Nets are always active in trade rumors and, according to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, there was a possible plan to trade Kyrie Irving for Simmons. The only problem for the Nets was that, according to the same report, Kevin Durant wasn't going to be alright with a trade involving Irving.

However, new information came out directly from the original source. Smith went on Twitter, issuing a clarification of some sorts regarding the rumor he started.

Smith basically stated that the Nets would be open to the deal, if not for Durant stopping any talk of that within the franchise. The ESPN analyst started a whole wave of differing opinions from NBA analysts, but it seems like there were never any discussions between the two franchises.

The Sixers will need to figure out this situation as soon as possible. In the current state, Simmons does not hold a lot of trade value, and dealing him now clearly would not reap the benefits they were hoping for. On the other hand, coach Doc Rivers is still hopeful that the situation can be turned around and will look to get Simmons back on the squad for the upcoming season.
