There are some people around the league who believe Kyrie Irving prefers to sign with the Brooklyn Nets over the New York Knicks should he decide not to re-sign with the Boston Celtics, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

Irving becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer once he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Celtics. The prevailing thought has been Irving will join the Knicks along with Kevin Durant. The Knicks have cap space to sign two max contract players.

New York is expected to make a summer run at point guard Kyrie Irving, but the Brooklyn Nets are also in the running for the enigmatic champion. In fact, some sources around the league believe Irving prefers the Nets. In an interview done recently with NBATV, David Griffin — who was the Cavs GM at the same time Irving played for Cleveland — suggested that was the case. Coincidentally, Irving is scheduled to play in Brooklyn with the Celtics on Saturday.

The Nets will have cap space this offseason to sign max contract players as well.

General manager Sean Marks and head coach Kenny Atkinson have done a great job of turning the franchise around. If Brooklyn can get Irving, they will be a serious contender next season.
