After being on the receiving end of yet another critical assessment, Brooklyn Nets stud D'Angelo Russell appears to have a formidable superstar sitting in his corner. This comes in the form of Philadelphia 76ers standout Ben Simmons. The Sixers man recently defended his former high school teammate after the latter was left outside the top 25 point guards list of a certain NBA critic.
A user that goes by the name of @nba.guru_ called out Russell for not being in the upper echelon of point guards in the league. Simmons was having none of it, and disputed the critic's claim. This is courtesy of netsdaily.com.

Simmons and Russell spent two seasons as teammates as part of the Monteverde Academy high school basketball team. They were a legendary duo for the Florida-based program, as they led their team to back-to-back High School National Tournament titles between 2013 and 2014. In this respect, Simmons was a first-hand witness to Russell's prowess as a point guard, so he is actually in a good position to defend his former partner in crime.
The NBA is overflowing with talent at the PG spot. Some may even make a case that in the league today, it is the most talent-packed among the five positions. This is probably where @nba.guru_ is coming from.
During his debut season with the Nets — an injury-plagued one at that — Russell averaged 15.2 points on 41.4% shooting, 1.9 three-pointers, 3.9 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 3.1 turnovers. Would you say that, based on these numbers alone, Russell ought to be part of the league's top 25 PG's?
