The NBA kicked off the new year with some spectacular performances around the league. However, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Oklahoma City forward Paul George have clearly stood out above the rest.
Both players have managed to take their game to the next level as of late. As a result, they have been named Player of the Week for their respective conferences, via Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints:
Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee #Bucks and Paul George of the Oklahoma City #Thunder have been named East and West Players of the Week.
The result should come as no surprise. Antetokounmpo and George have been two of the most electrifying players in the NBA as of late. They were able to solidify that notion from both an individual and team standpoint.
Antetokounmpo averaged 30.7 points, 15.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 block per game last week. He has also done a stellar job of expanding his range after shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from 3-point range. The fact that the “Greek Freak” continues to make tremendous strides in his game is a scary thought for the rest of the league. More importantly, he has led the bucks to an NBA-best 35-13 record.
Meanwhile, George has quietly put together an MVP-caliber year of his own. The Thunder star has acknowledged that this has been his best season yet. He gave an example of why that is with a clutch performance against Milwaukee on Sunday. Oklahoma City now holds the third spot in the powerhouse Western Conference.
