There was speculation that once star forward Gordon Heyward went down in the 2017-18 NBA season opener, the Boston Celtics' year was essentially over before it had even started. However, they have managed to get off to an NBA-best 11-2 record to begin the season.
Boston's performance thus far has largely been attributed to the stellar play of superstar Kyrie Irving. However, during an interview an appearance on WFNZ-AM, Charlotte Hornets head coach Steve Clifford said the Celtics may have the best defensive personnel aside from the Golden State Warriors:
“Outside of Golden State, the Celtics have probably best combination of defensive personnel in the league.”

Clifford went on to praise Boston's size and versatility as a large part of the reasons why. His praise has rung true considering the Celtics currently lead the league in defensive rating.
Boston's length across the board allows them to effectively switch on defense, regardless of the matchup. Even Irving has flourished under head coach Brad Steven's system on defense by becoming one of the league leaders in steals.
Their versatility will surely help them in their quest to claim the Eastern Conference crown. Unfortunately for Clifford, there is also a possibility they meet in the playoffs down the road.
