Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry is in danger of missing this coming Sunday’s date with the New York Jets and the team’s final regular season game against the Oakland Raiders on Dec. 31 because of a small kidney laceration.

Henry appeared to have sustained the injury during last Saturday’s 30-13 road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The 23-year-old tight end was hit by Chiefs linebacker Bennie Logan during a fumble return play, resulting in an unnecessary roughness penalty charged to Logan.

Should Logan miss any contest, the Chargers will look to cover his void by rotating Antonio Gates, Sean McGrath, and Jeff Cumberland. Wide receiver Keenan Allen, meanwhile, could see an added load in a Los Angeles offense that ranks seventh in total yards (368.0) and third in passing yards (268.6) per game.
Henry is one of the most dependable targets downfield for Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. Henry is third on the team in receiving yards (579) and in receptions (45) to go with four touchdowns.
Hunter is an important weapon for the Chargers, but the team could not risk the health of the tight end, who has one year left on his current contract after this season.
