The Chicago Bulls have listed first-round draft pick Lauri Markkanen as day-to-day following back spasms which caused the rookie to leave practice on Friday, according to a report from the Associated Press.
Markkanen, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2017 draft, was acquired with Zach LaVine and Kris Dunn from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the blockbuster trade for Jimmy Butler.
The 7-foot Finn was a highly-touted prospect coming out of Arizona, where he averaged 15.6 points and shot over 42 percent on 3-pointers as a freshman last season.
Article Continues BelowLauri Markkannen had a busy summer as he starred for his home country of Finland during the EuroBasket tournament. Markkanen led the team with 19.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game as the Finns made it to the round of 16.
The rookie is expected to fight for minutes this season in a suddenly-crowded Bulls power forward depth chart which also features Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic, who recently agreed to a new two-year, $27 million deal.
The Bulls are set to begin their preseason schedule against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday, October 3.
