With 30 teams preparing for the 2017-18 NBA season, the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers recently completed a blockbuster trade involving Isaiah Thomas and Kyrie Irving. While the trade was made official the same day, it took a turn following Thomas' physical.
According to Sam Amico of Amico Hoops, the Celtics reportedly do not believe Thomas will be cleared by the Cavaliers due to the hip injury:
Sources: Teams have yet to talk, but #Celtics do not believe Isaiah Thomas will be cleared by a #Cavs physical, planning for more dialogue.

After a career season, Thomas was ultimately shut down after the Celtics lost the first two games against the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. While no surgery was required, the two-time All-Star has been rehabilitating the injury during the offseason.
If Thomas is not cleared, there are two options for both teams. In the first scenario, the Cavaliers could ask for another player and/or additional draft pick to still complete the trade. In the second scenario, the Cavaliers could void the trade and all the players involved would return to their respective teams.
Should the Cavaliers ultimately void the trade, it will be interesting to see what happens with Irving. While there are numerous teams interested in him, many believe the Cavaliers won the trade with Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and 2018 Brooklyn Nets first round draft pick.
