The inaugural season of the BIG3 League was deemed as a successful one as Ice Cube and company drew sizable crowds weekly featuring players who were mostly stars of the NBA in the past.

The league has drawn a lot praise from different members of the basketball community, and the latest one to give them good words is Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. He said the people behind it deserves a lot of credit and that he wishes they can continue to be supported by many in the coming years, via Oliver Maroney of Dime Magazine.

“I thought it was fun. It will be more work to sustain it after the novelty but they have some really smart people working on it. Plus, 3-on-3 is now an Olympic sport. Even if the rules are different, they can have some fun pulling in some olympics teams to play to generate more interest.”

Cuban does make a valid point on people having fun watching 3-on-3 games, as it is indeed part of the Olympics now. There are also a number of competitions sanctioned by FIBA that brings together the best four players of each country around the world. The success of BIG3 might even give their younger players a chance to once again play in the NBA, after proving their worth in their league.

BIG3’s first season ended last weekend with Trilogy winning the title, and going undefeated in the process. The team was led by NBA veterans Kenyon Martin, Al Harrington, and Rashad McCants while coached by Rick Mahorn.
