Anthony Davis and the Dallas Mavericks are preparing to play the Houston Rockets on Saturday. While speaking to reporters during his Mavericks introductory press conference on Friday, Davis said that he expects to play against the Rockets. However, Davis was initially listed as probable on the injury report as he continues to deal with an abdominal muscle strain. So is AD playing today?

The Mavericks agreed to acquire Davis from the Los Angeles Lakers for Luka Doncic last Saturday night. Other players were involved, of course, but the fact that the Mavericks decided to trade Doncic at only 25 years old left many fans in shock. In fact, the players were surprised as well.

Nevertheless, Doncic and Davis are preparing to begin the next chapters of their NBA careers. Doncic is expected to make his Lakers debut on Monday. Will Davis make his Mavs debut on Saturday?

Anthony Davis' injury status vs. Rockets

Davis is still listed as probable for the Rockets-Mavericks game, per the NBA injury report. Dereck Lively II (right ankle stress fracture), Dwight Powell (right hip strain) and recently acquired Caleb Martin (right hip strain) are all listed as out for Saturday's game.

Dallas will enter play on Saturday with a 27-25 record which is good for eighth place in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Rockets are 32-19 and in fourth place in the West.

It will be especially interesting to see how the Mavs play over the next few weeks. It goes without saying, but the team is set to undergo a big adjustment as Davis joins the team. Doncic has been the Mavs' best player for years, and now Davis is set to help Kyrie Irving lead the way.

So is Anthony Davis playing vs. the Rockets? The answer is maybe.
