It has been a whirlwind of a past few months for the Dallas Mavericks. They made one of the most shocking trades in NBA history, trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The move sent shockwaves throughout the league, but their fortunes immediately changed once again after they shocked the world and won the NBA Draft lottery. With Cooper Flagg expected to go No. 1 overall, that optimism has translated to ticket sales.

ESPN senior NBA Writer Baxter Holmes recently wrote a piece on how everything fell into place for the Dallas Mavericks and how Cooper Flagg and the fanbase reacted to a shocking draft lottery. He specifically talked about how the whiplash created a massive sense of optimism among the fanbase, and they got an influx of ticket renewals and new tickets due to winning the draft lottery.

“We surprisingly renewed 75-80% of our season tickets,” one Mavericks team source said. “But we had a lot of work to do to earn back the confidence and fandom of a not insignificant segment of our fan base.

“We sold $8 million in new season tickets three days after the lottery.”
That sense of optimism was not felt strictly at the ticketing level either, with new companies coming in due to that excitement and wanting to be team sponsors and be a part of the Mavericks due to the buzz that will follow them all season, due to Flagg.
“We have done two additional new sponsor deals, one the second largest in our history, since the luck of the lottery,” the Mavericks source said.

In terms of excitement, this can potentially be one of the biggest turnarounds in NBA history. The Mavericks shocked everyone with the Luka Doncic trade. They were on their way to the postseason and had just come off an appearance in the NBA Finals, yet they still decided to ship him out of Dallas.
