Basketball Hall of Famer Jason Kidd will continue to serve as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks for the foreseeable future after the team announced that it signed him to a multi-year contract.

Kidd has been at the helm of the Mavericks' coaching staff since the 2021-22 NBA season, and he's excited for what's in store for him and the team ahead.

The 52-year-old Kidd, who is regarded as one of the greatest players to ever play in NBA history, thanked Dallas owner Patrick Dumont and general manager Nico Harrison for keeping their trust in him.

“I’m grateful for the belief that Patrick and Nico have in me, and the trust we’ve built while working together to construct a team that Dallas can be proud of. We have a great group of players here who love basketball, are talented and coachable,” Kidd shared in a statement (h/t Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints).

“There’s mutual respect across all departments, and Patrick and Nico set the tone for what we are trying to accomplish here. It’s even more special that I can continue to coach the team that drafted me, and where I was able to win a title as a player. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead and continuing to work toward bringing another championship back to Dallas.”

The Mavericks had a tumultuous 2024-25 NBA season marked by the groundshaking trade that sent franchise player Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers and the injuries of superstar point guard Kyrie Irving and extremely talented but oft-hurt big man Anthony Davis, while finishing with just 39 wins to miss the NBA Playoffs. That season also came just after Kidd steered the Mavs all the way to an NBA Finals appearance in 2024.

But with the arrival of Cooper Flagg in Dallas and a full offseason with Anthony Davis, Mavericks fans expect a big rebound for the team that's looking to establish itself as a legitimate NBA title contender again.

Kidd, who won an NBA championship with the Mavericks as a player in 2011, has a 179-149 career record in the regular season and 31-33 in the postseason as Dallas' head coach.
